Connaissance et Mémoires, 2008

This small-format volume (7 x 8½ in., 96 pages) presents the alphabet in a collector’s edition of exceptional design and quality.

Charlotte Moss, the Manhattan-based interior designer, prefaces the English-language edition and the Marquis de Breteuil the French.

In keeping with the light-hearted spirit of the original watercolors, the book is rich in color, with boldly graphic endpapers and saffron-yellow and juniper-green silk covered boards—a primer on the ABCs for children of all ages. The volume also includes an introductory essay tracing the sources of inspiration for the watercolors, and concludes with a richly illustrated essay tracing the history of artist’s alphabets from the Renaissance to the present day.

A richly illustrated review by Books On Books can be found here.

An Architectural Alphabet is limited to 400 copies in each language and is signed and numbered and bound in grey silk, in the Chinese fashion, and slipcased. The same quality papers and advanced printing techniques used for our previous artist’s books, Chinoiseries and Versailles, ensures that this volume meets those exceptional standards.

Only available in the English-language edition. Last copies; only a few books remain.

Please note: All limited-edition books are shipped fully insured with tracking number.
